Home renovation television shows are very popular with viewing audiences and I have been fortunate enough to work on two shows as Director of Photography (DP or DOP) and as Producer/Shooter.  Besides just being able to direct and capture two camera scenes with more than adequate coverage for an editor, I have an eye for composing unique and creative shots that make old wood, peeling paint, cutting wood, and sawdust look beautiful.

With my deep connections within the video production community, I can assemble a highly talented and hard-working production team that works together like a dream to make the home renovation shoot go smoothly and efficiently.  I have composed a team that can include crew members such as Sound Mixer, Camera Operator, Assistant Camera (AC), DIT, Production Coordinator, Drone Pilot, Grip, Production Assistant (PA), and Make Up Artist.

NC home renovation show video crew

After our main two FS7 camera scenes are captured I have the experience to return to the home renovation build site as Producer/Shooter and capture build progress footage.  I am experienced at directing non-professional talent to capture a complete story, conduct in the moment (ITM) interviews as the progress work happens, capture all the before/after and scene cutaway shots that make editors happy, runs my own sound into camera if needed, and compose beautiful-looking OTF interviews that I conduct myself or are conducted by a remote producer viewing my camera feed via Zoom.

For gear I have two Sony FS7 cameras or a FX9 and FX6 camera that can be utilized for two camera scene coverage.  I also have a Sony a7s iii that can live on a Ronin gimbal and used by my AC to capture that flowing wide shot of the scene.  Two cameras can be fitting with the MARS 400S wireless video transmitter and I have a hand-held wireless Director’s monitor that has A/B camera on the display.  The video transmitters also simultaneously can sent the image feed to up to 8 smartphones or tablets via a viewing app.

I have abundant lighting fixtures and grip gear to handle some of the special requirements that are present on a home renovation video shoot.  I have three Lite Panels Astra 6X bi-color LED panels that can be either AC or battery powered.  I have the ability to fit them with a soft box or diffusion material to soften the OTF interview or scene lighting.  I also have a collection of battery powered bi-color LED tube lights and a LiteCloth bi-color LED mat that can be taped up anywhere in tight spaces.

As DP I can act as a FAA and NC Commercially licensed and insured drone pilot to provide coverage of the home build progress and specialty shots for opening and closing a scene.  I am currently running a Mavic 2 Pro drone and specialize in cinematic shooting style.

I have worked on home renovation show video shoots over multiple months without on-site power, air conditioning, running water, or flush toilet and myself and my team were able to handle the challenge with grace.

Feel free to get in contact with me if you have an upcoming home renovation video shoot where you need an experienced FS7 or FX9 DP in North Carolina (NC), South Carolina (SC), Tennessee (TN) or Virginia (VA).
